Tips for Searching Our Collections

Here are some tips on getting the most out of your visit to our site.

The Search button in the "Keyword Search" box only searches the 250,000+ entries for the Will County Recorder of Deed's Property Transactions from 1836-1885.

If you looking to search just one of the other collections follow these simple steps.

1. Click on “More options” in the “Keyword Search” box on the
far right of the screen.

2. Choose the content you wish to search (i.e. Plainfield
Cemetery Ledger or Enterprise Obituary Index)

Will County Preserving History's Heritage Will Be Available September, 1, 2009!

The Plainfield Public Library District, in conjunction with the Plainfield Historical Society, Shorewood-Troy Public Library and the Will County Recorder of Deeds are pleased to present Will County: Preserving History’s Heritage. This project is sponsored by the Illinois State Library under the Library Services Technology Act. The Plainfield Public Library received $20,000 to digitize, preserve and index historical books, newsletters and photographs important to Will County Illinois history. The following organizations and collections have been digitized:

Wow, What A Difference A Year Makes!

The Plainfield Public Library completed our 18 month digitization grant from the Illinois State Library. Volunteers indexed a total number of 207,177 entries from 2,138 pages of text from three property transaction indexes housed at the Will County Recorder of Deeds office. Volunteers also cleaned, scanned and transcribed other collections including the Miles V. Hartong Glass-Plate Negative Collection at the Plainfield Historical Society,
